How does Hologram use eUICC?

Hologram SIMs use eUICC to enable global connectivity coverage and perform over-the-air updates to your devices. eUICC on a SIM acts as a sort of digital wallet that lets you use several different “credit cards” (or subscription profiles), all on the same eUICC SIM card. One eUICC SIM can switch between different profiles to adjust connectivity instead of having to physically remove one SIM with one profile for a different SIM with a different profile.

Hologram developed Hyper, our eUICC offering, to give M2M users more flexibility with their devices. Hologram handles all the technical integrations so that companies can use eUICC-enabled devices anywhere, with any of Hologram’s global carrier partners. This simplifies their supply chains and extends the life (and usefulness) of their devices.

Our Outage Proof SIMs extend eUICC capabilities even further, allowing your devices to switch profiles automatically if your SIM loses connectivity. You can read more about how our Hyper SIMs use network fallback to protect you from unexpected downtime here.

Note: If you’re interested in contractually guaranteed reliability with our Outage Proof SIMs, reach out to your Hologram Account Executive or contact our Sales team to learn how you can make outages a thing of the past.

Is my device compatible with eUICC?

eUICC operations utilize industry-standard methods of communication between the cellular module and eUICC SIM card such as BIP (Bearer Independent Protocol), SMS, and SIM toolkit AT commands. Outside of these common SIM and module functions, no additional requirements are typically required for IoT devices to support eUICC capability.

If your device works with UICC SIMs it will work with EUICC SIMs.
